Main street Gym’s Fernando Guerrero and super heavyweight Michael Hunter will board a plane Sat.Aug 18th to travel to Houston Texes where they will make thier bid to represent the USA in Bejing China at the 2008 Olympic Games. Guerrero, who lives with coach Hal Chernoff has trained hard since winning the 2007 USA, will be seeded # 1 and will box on Monday in his first bout of the tournament.
Michael Hunter, Who came to Salisbury to train with coach Chernoff at Main St Gym , into the trials seeded #1 as well after winning the 2007 USA Championships. Hunter feels that the time spent in Salisbury has helped significanlty. “We worked on a lot of things that Mike has not done, different kinds of drills and some new things that he seemed to get a lot out of:. He has good coaching back home but being around another athlete in the same situation, helps take the energy level up to a new place.” Chernoff said, :Mike is a good kid with a lot of talent and a very bright future,. He has accomplished alot for such a young man” he added.
